Advisory Opinion No. 96-40 Re: William J. McAtee Question Presented A Superior Court Administrator/Master, who is appointed by the Presiding Judge of the Superior Court and who serves at the pleasure of such appointing authority, requests an advisory opinion as to whether he is required to file an annual Financial Statement as a state appointed official. Response The Code of Ethics does not require that a Superior Court Administrator/Master, who is appointed by the Presiding Judge of the Superior Court and who serves at the pleasure of such appointing authority, file an annual Financial Statement. The petitioner's appointment is not made by the highest legislative body or highest official of the state nor is the petitioner's term of office specified by a statute, charter or ordinance; therefore the Superior Court Administrator/Master is not a state appointed official within the meaning of R.I. Gen. Laws §§ 36-14-16, 36-14-4(a) and (b). Code Citations: 36-14-4(a) 36-14-4(b) 36-14-16 Keywords: financial disclosure
